MediaCorp's Central and Suria were launched on 30 January 2000, replacing Prime 12 and Premiere 12.

The two channels cater to viewers from special demographic groups.

Central is made up of 3 distinct programming belts: Kids Central, Vasantham Central and Arts Central while Suria, a Malay channel, offers information and entertainment to the modern Malays.

Kids Central offers intelligent programming that entertains, inspires and empowers children aged 4 to 12 years. It is the most watched children's channel in Singapore by kids and parents. With 58.5 hours of programming every week, it is the largest terrestrial kids' channel in the world. Kids Central has created a winning formula with its local kids' dramas, such as 'Kids United', 'Robbie & the Book of Tales' and 'We are R.E.M.'. These kids' favourites can often be found on the Top 10 English Programmes ratings chart in Singapore.

Local children's drama has consistently overtaken most acquired programmes' ratings. Some of these programmes have also received international honours. For example, in the year 2002, Kids United as well as Robbie The Book of Tales were awarded the Certificate and forwarded by the Nomination Committee to the Video Bar at the Prix Jeunesse International. Watch Eat received the Finalist status at the New York Festival in the Youth Programmes Category.

Kids Central features local as well as internationally acclaimed children's programmes 47.5 hours on weekdays and 13 hours on weekends.
